Every morning before customers arrive to the garden, we’re on the hillside picking our produce. Our goal at Hillside Harvests is to show both individual customers, and businesses we sell to that there is a difference between produce picked days or even weeks ago and produce picked within the last day.
Plenty of options to choose from. Over the course of the season, we’ll be offering 48 different varieties of produce at Hillside Harvests. Beans, peas and beets lead us off at the beginning of the season in late June. Towards the middle of July, sweet corn, tomatoes and some of the best watermelons & cantaloupes you’ll ever taste will be at their peak. Even after school starts and fall approaches, we’ll have plenty of winter squash and pumpkins to go around.
We don’t just pick our produce every day, we do it by hand. No machine is used to harvest any of our produce. This enables us to have the highest quality standards- standards higher than that of larger produce farms simply don’t have the time to enforce. Every tomato, melon and bean was picked by one of the Rettenmunds, or an employee. When our sweet corn is ripe, Brenda and her father, Mark, are in the cornfield every morning harvesting the best ears to sell to our customers.
